Mount Royal University in Calgary has released the name of one of the flight instructors killed in a plane crash west of the city.
President David Docherty says the family of Jeffrey Bird is heartbroken over his death.
Docherty says Bird was a pilot instructor with the Royal Canadian Air Force at Canadian Forces Base Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan prior to joining Mount Royal as an instructor.
Before that, Bird was a helicopter pilot in Edmonton with 408 Squadron.
Docherty says the family of the other flight instructor has not given the university permission to release his name.
RCMP say the crash happened on Monday east of Highway 40, northwest of Cochrane.
