It was a record-breaking day in Alberta Wednesday, as 16 different communities across the province established new record highs, including Calgary.
It’s all thanks to a westerly flow of mild Pacific air across the Prairies, that’s resulted in a warm-up across the region.
Here in Calgary, the temperature soared to a pleasant 16.4 degrees, beating the century old record of 15.6 set back in 1916.
Several students at Mount Royal University took time between classes to ditch the parkas, some even going sleeveless in the courtyard in hopes of soaking up sun.
“It feels great, we need more of it,” said Tanner. “It feels good, last winter was pretty cold while I was working in Fort McMurray.”
“It’s nice to be able to sit outside and not have to wear six layers,” said Matthew who appeared to be studying outside in the sunshine. “I’ll just be outside as much as I can in case it gets cold again.”
“I’m just trying to soak up the sun as much as I can because we normally don’t get this type of weather here in mid-February,” said Sim. “It got really cold and we got about 30 centimetres of snow. To see this now, it’s really surprising but it’s good for the community.”
Other regions to set new records Wednesday included:
