A week-long operation has led to the arrest of five people, as a result of increased street level drug activity along Stephen Avenue.
Officers seized 28 grams of methamphetamine, more than a gram of powdered cocaine, two Tylenol 3 pills with codeine, six dexedrine pills, four concealed knives and a replica handgun.
Charged are: Tara Duncan, 23, of no fixed address, Tanya Youngman, 47, of no fixed address, Shelley Ward, 43, of no fixed address, Brandon Yellowfly, 20, of Calgary and Zoe Hartman, 21, of Calgary.
District One Staff Sgt. Shaun Wallace said the biggest difference from other districts is that there is an influx of people coming into the core on a daily basis.
“Tourists, our guests that come to the city, as well as we start seeing through nicer weather, transient people coming with no fixed address,” he said.
Even if it’s more concentrated, Wallace explained most of the criminal activity is pretty minor.
“This actually occurs probably almost 24/7. I would say — just really re-enforce to members of our community, the area is very safe.”
Wallace added, they generate their own leads on who to look out for, but they’re always open to help from the public too.
