Nenshi wants public to question secondary suites in election

As part of the new city charters announced by the Notley government, Calgary has been given the power to give a person or third party the authority to deal with secondary suites.

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi says it’s something they could have already done.

“Council did not need this regulation to fix this problem, we had the power to fix it before what we lack is the political will,” Nenshi said.

Nenshi hopes the controversy over secondary suites is an issue voters will raise with those campaigning not only for his chair but those on city council in the upcoming October municipal elections.

Many council meetings are bogged down by secondary suite applications which council individually reviews before approving.
