New disc golf course opens in Calgary

Calgary’s disc golf enthusiasts now have a new place to play.
The David Richardson Memorial Disc Golf Park was unveiled Saturday and is now open to the public.
The 27 acre park stretches across Royal Oak and it was built on parcel of land that was left over after the construction of Stoney Trail.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi is excited about the newest addition to the Calgary sports scene.
“This is probably one of the best disc golf courses in the world,” he said. “The great thing about this sport is you just need a disc to play. There’s no barriers to entry. It’s a great way to get out and a great way to active.”
The course is dedicated to David Richardson who was a Calgary businessperson and avid disc golfer who passed away in 2015 at the age of 42.
His father, Glen Richardson, was at the opening of the park and spoke about the goal of the project.
“To bring a legacy to the City of Calgary that will be here for hopefully thousands of years and thousands of people will go through it and get out and stay fit. It means a lot to our whole family.”
The course will eventually host world-class tournaments and there are no fees for the public to play.
