A professor of justice studies at Mount Royal University says the Calgary Police Service just has to move some pieces around and work with what it has.
Doug King with Mount Royal University is responding to citizen survey results released Thursday by the Calgary Police Commission showing many Calgarians feel the service is understaffed.
“The Calgary Police Service is somewhat understaffed but not grossly so,” King said, “but so is Vancouver Police, so is Edmonton Police, so is Toronto Police, they are all understaffed as well.”
Respondents also said they wanted police to have a stronger presence, something that can be accomplished by having officers attend more community meetings and events according to King.
On the positive side, almost everyone said they feel safe in Calgary, and have confidence in the police.
