CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A Calgary-based flight instructor thinks a lot of pilots will be in favour of new federal drone regulations.
The new rules, announced by Transport Minister Marc Garneau, are aimed at reducing a growing trend of incidents involving drones and aircraft.
Instructor Jason Arthur at Mount Royal University said drone incidents are becoming more frequent.
“Being a pilot out there and kind of seeing the danger, that a drone not being flown properly can possess, then these regulations are definitely welcome.”
Arthur flies small aircraft and said even a small drone can cause a lot of damage if there’s a mid-air collision.
On average, Transport Canada receives four complaints a week from pilots about drone encounters.
