ALBERTA (660 NEWS) — Canadian Pacific Railway is reporting that one of its freight trains has derailed west of Banff. No one was hurt as a result of the derailment, and according to CPR, there are no public safety concerns.
The derailment comes just weeks after Federal Minister of Transport, Marc Garneau ordered that all railway companies use handbrakes when trains are stopped on a mountain grade after an emergency use of their air brakes. The order was issued after a major train derailment in Field, BC claimed the lives of three CPR employees on February 4.
