Motorsports set to return to southern Alberta with construction of race track near Carstairs

CARSTAIRS (660 NEWS) — After nearly a decade a new race track is finally on the way in Alberta.

Rocky Mountain Motorsports has been attempting to get a new track built since its Race City Speedway closed back in 2011.

“Really its a case of just putting a development agreement in place with the county, we are well along that, just some I’s to dot and T’s to cross and we’re working through that,” CEO Dominic Young said.

Young says the $25-million privately funded project should start being developed near Carstairs sometime this spring.

“The Calgary area has been without a track of any sort for over eight years, maybe 9 years, and we certainly saw when it was a facility, it was fully booked and well utilized,” Young said.

The track should be opened in the summer.

Some of the features of the track include 36 metres of elevation changes, as well as roughly 5km of track once all is said and done.

Track time will be split between private and public bookings. With a Gold membership at the club pushing $40,000.
