Calgary Correctional Centre reports 55 positive COVID-19 cases

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Fifty inmates and five staff members at the Calgary Correctional Centre have tested positive for COVID-19.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says the outbreak at the centre is linked to transmission within the facility.

All inmates and staff are being tested for the virus.

The centre is being monitored for any more possible exposure and as of Friday, all inmates are isolating.

All movement between the units has been suspended for the time being. This includes transfers and admissions in or out of the facility.

AHS says enhanced cleaning of the centre is taking place, and all staff members must undergo COVID-19 symptom screening before each shift.

All inmates are assessed by AHS members twice daily and so far, all are reporting mild symptoms
