Two men accused of joining ISIS to appear in court

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Two men accused of flying overseas to fight with the Islamic State are set to make an appearance in court Friday.

Crown prosecutors allege that Jamal Taan Borhot and Hussein Sobhe Borhot travelled to Syria between the springs of 2013 and 2014, where they participated in activities on behalf of the Islamic State.

Investigators believe the group trained Hussein Borhot for the purpose of enhancing its ability and that he knowingly committed the offence of kidnapping while working with the militants.

Hussein was granted bail last July.

Terrorism charges were laid in the summer of 2020, following a seven-year investigation by the RCMP’s Integrated National Enforcement Team (INSET).

The two men are related but RCMP have not revealed how they are.
