Calgary pharmacist suspended following unprofessional conduct

CALGARY — A Calgary pharmacist has been suspended after a Hearing Tribunal for the Alberta College of Pharmacy found him guilty of unprofessional conduct.

Elo Cymbaluk, who manages a community pharmacy in the city, was accused of diverting Tadalafil for personal use.

The Tribunal also found Cymbaluk had abused his position of trust to manipulate inventory records to conceal his diversions.

The following penalties have now been imposed on Cymbaluk:

• a two-month suspension, with one month to be held in abeyance pending Cymbaluk’s compliance and there being no similar complaints regarding diversion coming to the attention of ACP for a period of two years from the decision;• an order that Cymbaluk must disclose the Tribunal’s written decision to the proprietor and licensee of any pharmacy in which he applies to work or works as a pharmacist for five years;
• a condition prohibiting Cymbaluk from holding the position of pharmacy owner, proprietor, or licensee for a period of five years;
• a $1,000 fine; and
• the costs of the investigation and hearing to a maximum of $10,000.

Cymbaluk has also been terminated from the pharmacy.
