A Calgary teen has been sentenced to three years after pleading guilty to counselling someone to commit murder.
The teen was handed the sentence, which is the maximum youth sentence, on Friday after a failed murder-for-hire plan.
The plan supposedly failed when the proposed hitman decided against killing the teen’s planned victim, a 16-year-old.
Calgary police say their investigation started on May 13, 2022, when they received a complaint from someone that the teen had asked them to murder another young person in exchange for payment.

However, the 17-year-old will only be in custody for two years, followed by one year of community supervision, due to provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Prior to his sentencing, he was on release for attacking another schoolmate with a knife back in 2021.
The teen was arrested outside his family’s home in northwest Calgary on June 28, 2022.
