Police are investigating a sexual assault involving a young girl in Fish Creek Park last month.
They have identified a suspect, but are looking for more information from public in hopes of furthering the investigation.
Investigators say on Thursday, Aug. 1 between 8 and 9 p.m., a girl was with her mom at a popular public swimming area called the Ice Caves in Fish Creek Park.
The victim’s mom was sitting on the bank of the creek, according to police, with several other families and children.
While the girl was swimming, police believe a man she didn’t know sexually assaulted her in the water.
The girl disclosed the alleged assault to her mom as the pair were leaving the area.
The mother immediately contacted police and reported the incident.
Police say the suspect is a man in his mid-30s who frequents the Ice Caves, as the girl and her mom reported seeing him and his family multiple times in the same spot throughout July and August.
Police have implemented safety measures to make sure no other children are victimized while the investigation continues.
Anyone who believes there are a victim of sexual assault is encouraged to make a report, regardless of when it happened. Anyone with information about this incident or similar incidents, is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
