A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Calgary Thursday morning.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection 5 Avenue and 3 Street SE around 7:35 a.m. for reports of a crash.
Police say a Tesla being driven by a man in his 60s was heading eastbound on 5 Avenue through a green light when he struck a man who was trying to cross the street.
The pedestrian who was struck, a man in his 50s, was trying to cross the street against the signal outside of the marked crosswalk, according to police.
He was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.
The driver stayed at the scene.
Investigators do not believe speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
Major delays during morning rush
The collision caused major delays during morning commute, with the 5 Avenue Flyover being shut down for several hours.
The flyover reopened after 12 p.m.
