WinSport pushes back ski season due to ‘unseasonably warm weather’

November's mild weather has prompted Calgary's Winsport to delay the start of its ski and snowboard season.

Despite a number of ski resorts west of Calgary being ready to open, a local hill within the city limits is postponing its opening day.

WinSport says the milder than normal weather conditions has forced the company to push back the ski season at Canada Olympic Park (COP) from the scheduled Nov. 22 date.

The company says the hill will instead open at a later as soon as the weather allows.

“While the unseasonably warm weather has led us to adjust our plans, we are committed to providing you with the best experience possible,” reads a release.

Calgary has seen a fairly consistent string of above seasonal temperatures in recent weeks and has only had a few days of snowfall this fall with very little accumulation.

660 NewsRadio meteorologist Kevin Stanfield says there is a good chance of snowfall to close out November thanks to a large system in the Gulf of Alaska that will be sweeping cooler air towards southern Alberta.

Discounted winter passes for (COP) are available to buy now and more details on day tickets will be released once an opening date is decided. More information on tickets is available here.

WinSport says another update will be coming on Nov. 21 where they will share more information.
