One man is facing a second-degree murder charge after a fatal hit-and-run outside a hookah lounge in southeast Calgary three months ago.
Emergency crews were called to Portico Lounge near 17 Avenue and 36 Street SE around 5 a.m. on Sept. 2 for reports of a disturbance.
Investigators say a fight broke out outside and one person got in a vehicle and struck the other before leaving the area.
Officers found no victim or suspects when they arrived, but 20 minutes later, an injured man showed up at Peter Lougheed Centre where he eventually died. Following an autopsy, the victim was identified as 32-year-old Awed Tesday Ghebremeskel.
Investigators say they have since found and examined the suspect vehicle, a black Dodge Caliber, spoke with witnesses, and reviewed hours of security footage.
On Monday, Calgary police arrested 46-year-old Jonathan Tewolde in Yellowknife. He has been charged with second-degree murder.
Police say the suspect and victim were not known to each other.
The accused is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
