Passenger killed after pickup truck crashes into pole in SE Calgary

Emergency crews called just after 7:30 in the morning where the person was declared dead at the scene.

A man is dead after a pickup truck left the road and crashed into a pole on Deerfoot Trail in southeast Calgary on Sunday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the Deerfoot and Anderson Road SE interchange around 7:35 a.m. for reports of a single-vehicle collision.

Calgary police say a 2007 Chevy Silverado was travelling southbound on Deerfoot towards the exit to Anderson and crashed into a light pole when the roadway diverged.

The crash caused the front passenger door to come off and the passenger, a man in his 30s, was ejected from the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a woman in her 30s, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police are investigating whether speed or impairment were factors in the crash.

Roads were closed in the area but they have since reopened.
