Former Cochrane firefighter charged for defrauding local charity: RCMP

Cochrane RCMP have charged a former firefighter in connection with a fraud investigation.

A former Calgary-area firefighter is facing charges after he allegedly defrauded a local charity.

Cochrane RCMP began investigating after they received a complaint in February 2024 about funds missing from a charity associated with the Cochrane’s firefighter foundation.

Investigators learned that a former firefighter had been “personally gaining” from the charity, according to RCMP.

B.C. resident Harold Avery, 57, has been charged with fraud over $5,000.

RCMP say the matter is before the courts and they will not be sharing any more details.
