Fog advisory issued for Calgary, area roads see icy conditions

By CityNews Staff

Calgary woke up to a blanket of freezing fog Thursday morning.

This has prompted an advisory from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

It says the fog has resulted in near-zero visibility.

Cochrane RCMP have advised of icy and dangerous conditions along Highway 22 near Highway 1 in both directions, and the on-ramp and off-ramp to Highway 1.

Area police are on scene of multiple vehicle collisions it says pose a “direct risk” to other travellers.

Visibility is expected to improve this afternoon.

Drivers are advised to turn on their lights and maintain a safe following distance during periods of heavy fog.
