Highway contractor fined after worker hit by vehicle in 2022

By CityNews Staff

The Government of Alberta says a highway contractor has been fined $180,000 after a worker was hit by a vehicle in August 2022.

The incident in question reportedly happened in 2022 on a highway maintenance site in Acheson, when a worker was hit while cleaning debris on a highway.

The province says Emcon Services Inc. pleaded guilty to one count under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act for failing to ensure the health and safety of a worker.

Both the company and the Crown have up to 30 days to appeal the conviction.
