The Kingbees lead singer reflects on band’s short history and busy career

The Kingbees were formed in the late 1970s by Toronto native Jamie James, who now calls California home, and came on the heels of a stint with a re-formed Steppenwolf.

The Kingbees music harkens back to a time when rock n’ roll was king with artists such as Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochran.

The trio was part of a surge in a musical style at the time that would later be known as ‘rockabilly’ with bands like The Stray Cats and The Blasters.

The Kingbees only released two albums before disbanding in 1982.

1980’s self-titled debut led to the song ‘My Mistake’ which hit #81 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
