An elderly woman is dead after she was hit by a vehicle at a northwest Calgary fast food drive-thru on Thursday.
Emergency crews were called to the Wendy’s restaurant at the Brentwood Shopping Centre around 12:30 p.m. for reports of a collision.
A 74-year-old woman was found with serious and life-threatening injuries in the restaurant’s drive-thru. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Calgary police say a woman was walking and crossing the drive-thru lane when she tripped and fell to the ground in the path of the vehicle.
She was not visible to an oncoming driver who placed an order at the speaker and pulled forward at a low rate of speed, driving over the pedestrian.
The 17-year-old driver exited the drive-thru and pulled over at a nearby gas station before returning to the scene on foot.
He wasn’t injured.
Police do not believe speed or impairment played a role.
The investigation is ongoing.
