Police are looking for a man they say is responsible for a random attack and attempted sexual assault of a woman in northwest Calgary on Canada Day.
Calgary police (CPS) say a woman was running in Ranchero Park in the community of Ranchlands around 10:20 p.m. when she was approached from behind by a man she did not know.
It is alleged the man hit her in the head and knocked her to the ground. It is further alleged he continued physically attacking her and tried to sexually assault her.
The woman was able to fight back and the man ran away on foot.
Police were called to the scene and searched the area with the help of the canine unit, but they were not able to find the suspect. The woman was taken to hospital with injuries.
“After following all other investigative avenues, we are now turning to the public and releasing two composite sketches to help identify the man,” reads a release from CPS. “The first sketch is of the suspect’s face and the second sketch is of a unique scar he is believed to have behind his right ear.”
Police describe the suspect as around 35 years old, 6’0″ tall with a muscular or heavy build, black hair, black facial hair, a medium skin tone, and acne scars on his face.
