A man riding an e-bicycle has been killed after being struck by a vehicle in southwest Calgary on Friday afternoon.
Calgary police say the crash happened around 3:40 p.m. near Stoney Trail SW at 17 Avenue SW.
They say a 2006 Land Rover Range Sport, while making a left turn from eastbound 17 Avenue onto northbound 101 Street SW, struck a man in his 40s riding an e-bicycle, who began to ride across 101 Street.
Officers initially explained the cyclist sustained critical injuries in the crash, but said before midnight that the victim, a man in his 40s, died on the scene. The driver, a man in his 70s, wasn’t injured.
Investigators say alcohol, drugs, and excessive speed aren’t factors in the crash.
The crash led police to close 17 Avenue SW in both directions across Stoney Trail, including all off-ramps. Officials also shut down all access points to 17 Avenue over Stoney Trail for the investigation.
