Blaze damaging 2 NW Citadel homes displaces residents

A scorching blaze extensively damaged two homes early Saturday in Calgary’s northwest community of Citadel, displacing the residents.

Crews were called at about 130 a.m. to Citadel Peak Circle NW.

Even before arriving, they declared a working fire due to the multiple 911 calls they received and heavy flame and smoke in the area.

Firefighters pummeled the flames engulfing two homes while coworkers began searching for people or pets inside.

A Calgary Fire Department spokesman tells 660 NewsRadio four residents were accounted for and displaced, given that two of the homes are no longer in livable condition.

Two adjacent homes have exterior heat damage.

Crews rescued four pets, but one kitten remains unaccounted for.

An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
