B.C. man wanted on warrants charged with drug trafficking in Calgary

A man from B.C. is facing charges after police investigated a suspicious vehicle in the downtown area last week.

Police say an officer was patrolling the downtown East Village area around 2 a.m. Friday, when he found a suspicious vehicle parked near the Calgary Drop-In Centre.

The officer searched the licence plate and found out the owner was wanted on warrants in B.C. After conducting a traffic stop, the officer allegedly saw several items “consistent with drug trafficking.”

The driver was arrested, and a search of the vehicle led to police finding drug paraphernalia, 159 grams of cocaine, 1.25 kg of GHB, cell phones, and cash. Police say the drugs seized have a street value of more than $22,000.

Brian Leonard McCaghren, 45, is charged with three counts of breaching release conditions and three counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
