Daylight police shooting at NW CTrain station leaves one man hurt

By CityNews Staff

Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating after a police officer shot and seriously injured one man at a northwest Calgary LRT station.

The Calgary Police Service says the shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. at the Dalhousie Train Station.

Police were called to the station after bylaw officers reported a man with a knife acting erratically and aggressively.

“During that response, officers were involved in a shooting that resulted in serious injuries to that one man,” says police chief Katie McLellan.

Police say the officers became involved in an altercation with the man before shots were fired.

The man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. There were no other injuries to officers or bystanders, according to police.

McLellan confirmed the Alberta Serious Injury Response Team (ASIRT) is taking over the investigation.

ASIRT investigate any incident involving police that results in serious injury or death.

Dalhousie Station was closed for several hours but reopened just after 5 p.m.
