Calgary police arrested a man accused of committing two arsons weeks apart that damaged three different restaurants on the city’s Beltline.

The first one happened on Nov. 4 at around 1:40 a.m., when a fire was set in the back alley of Bridgette Bar near 8 Street and 10 Avenue SW.

The damage, estimated to cost between $200,000 and $300,000, was limited to a washroom and private dining room. The restaurant was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The other incident happened over a month later on Dec. 17, before 5 a.m., when flames believed to have emerged from a back alley entrance damaged Salt and Brick and Greta Bar.

“Charlie’s Speakeasy,” at the back of the Salt and Brick restaurant, was badly damaged, and the fire spread next door to Greta Bar.

Officers say the incidents are connected and were intentionally set, but a motive is unclear at this time.

As a result, 34-year-old Aldin Crowchild was arrested on Saturday.

He faces four counts of arson and breaching a probation order. Officers say he is in custody and scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 8, 2026.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
