A woman is facing second-degree murder charges after her 83-year-old mother was found dead in her Canyon Meadows home on Thursday, Calgary police say.
This follows an earlier report about a suspicious death, when officers were called to the 13000 block of Canterbury Gardens SW on Jan. 8 just before 11 a.m. for reports about a woman in her 80s being found dead inside.
Following an autopsy, police identified the woman as 83-year-old Sharon Helene Roberts, and called her death a homicide.
Determining the incident as a domestic one, investigators arrested the victim’s daughter, 52-year-old Tonnya Marisse, from her home on Stradwick Rise SW on Friday.
She now faces one count of second-degree murder, and is slated to appear in court on Jan. 13.
Officers say they are not looking for any additional suspects, and add to “respect the privacy of the family,” they won’t be releasing more details.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Calgary police by calling 403-266-1234 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
