Alberta Health Services has ordered a boil‑water advisory for roughly 500 homes and businesses in southwest Calgary as a result of a water outage that started Friday morning.
Under the advisory, residents and businesses in the affected zones of Spruce Cliff, Wildwood, and Rosscarrock, must bring tap water to a rolling boil for one full minute before using it for drinking, brushing teeth, preparing food, washing produce, or making ice.
Bottled water is also an acceptable alternative.
The impacted properties include the area within the Bow River Pathway to the north, Shaganappi Golf Course to the east, 37 Street SW to the west, and 17 Avenue SW to the south. Westbrook Mall is within the area and is reportedly closed due to the issue.
The city says the outage was caused by a water service line on a private property that failed early Friday. When crews shut off water to the affected property, the disruption extended to the water main supplying the broader area.
City officials still expect water service to be restored by Friday afternoon.
In the meantime, water wagons are being provided. Their locations are available on the city’s website.
Officials are emphasizing that the incident is not connected to the ongoing repairs of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main and did not involve a break on any city‑owned water infrastructure.
