Banff Sunshine gets fresh dump of snow head of summer skiing dates

Have you ever wanted to experience something only few have done before…this summer, you’ll have your chance. Phoenix Phillips reports on Summer Skiing in the Rockies.

Banff Sunshine Village got a fresh dump of snow in recent days as it gets set to offer summer skiing later this month.

The resort says 25 centimetres fell over the weekend, and another 18 centimetres were expected to touch the ground on Monday and Tuesday.T

The snowfall comes as they get ready to reopen runs for June skiing, something that has happened only twice in the past three decades.

The resort last offered summer skiing four years ago, and before that, not since 1991. Sunshine’s VP of marketing, Kendra Scurfield, says the team moved quickly once it became clear the mountain was getting a late‑season boost.

“From a whole organizational perspective… being able to open to summer did take quick planning and our team is all hands on deck,” she said.

Skiers can expect spring‑like conditions rather than true winter snow, but Scurfield describes the atmosphere as “a high vibe experience.”

The Strawberry lift will operate, and the Sunshine Mountain Lodge will be open, with DJs and entertainment planned in the village.

Three weeks of summer skiing will run June 20 through July 5.
