Calgary rolls out first new CTrain cars in six years

Calgary Transit is introducing a fresh set of CTrain vehicles this week.
The transit agency unveiled the new C10 light‑rail vehicles (LRVs) on Tuesday at Victoria Park/Stampede station as the first additions to the fleet in six years.
The new trains come with heated floors, onboard digital displays, air conditioning and improved accessibility. Officials say they are more reliable, cheaper to maintain, and a major step toward modernizing public transit in Calgary.
The new LRVs will replace the last of the long‑serving U2 cars, which are well past the end of their service life.
Calgary Transit director Sharon Fleming said three upgraded trains are ready to enter service immediately, joining 69 others already operating on the network.
“As soon as tomorrow, the new LRV’s will join the other 69 Mask cars that are already delivering customers to their destinations,” said Fleming.
Over the next two and a half years, Calgary Transit plans to add 37 more C10 vehicles while gradually retiring the oldest cars that have been running since 1981.
