Two teens charged after Calgary traffic stop leads to drug seizure

Two teens are facing charges after a routine traffic stop in northeast Calgary uncovered more than 840 grams of suspected drugs, along with ammunition and cash.
Calgary police say officers pulled over a vehicle around 5:25 p.m. on Wednesday near 68 Street and McKnight Boulevard NE after noticing the registered owner was wanted under the Traffic Safety Act.
The owner was not inside the vehicle, but officers found several hidden compartments containing a large quantity of drugs.
Police seized 738 grams of suspected cocaine and 104 grams of suspected fentanyl. The combined worth of the drugs is estimated at $43,000.
Officers also recovered $1,040 in cash and 44 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
Eighteen‑year‑old Natale Mahder Tesfe is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. A 17‑year‑old boy, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of failing to comply with a sentence or disposition.
