Fatal trench incident claims life east of Calgary

Local authorities say one person is dead after an incident in which a trench collapsed east of Calgary.
In a statement to CityNews, Calgary fire says they responded to the scene per request of Wheatland County.
“CFD’s Technical Rescue team with two specialized apparatus arrived on scene to a 6–10-foot collapsed trench with one deceased person, who was recovered using trench rescue techniques,” say fire officials.
They add the cause of the collapse is unknown.
Meanwhile, RCMP say they are investigating the incident, which took place at a private property in the Bassano detachment area.
The Mounties were called in at 8:36 p.m. Thursday.
