Group of international students flagged for status reviews after border officers visit Calgary protest

A group of international students have been flagged for status reviews after federal border officers attended a protest in northeast Calgary this week.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) confirms Calgary police requested status verifications for four individuals at a rally in the community of Saddletowne on Wednesday, where students were protesting delays and denials in work visas.
Two of the four students were found out of compliance with immigration rules, leading CBSA officers to attend the gathering and conduct broader checks.
Officers verified the status of 20 people and identified 12 who may be inadmissible under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, according to the CBSA. Those individuals were told to report to the CBSA office for follow‑up interviews.
The CBSA says inland investigations are a routine enforcement tool used to identify people who are not authorized to remain in Canada, adding that anyone facing enforcement action has access to due process, including appeals and judicial review.
One student told CityNews they have sought legal counsel and will not comment further until they receive advice.
International students have been staging protests at the same location for several weeks now.
