Ongoing delays for fatal plane crash recovery operation

Recovery of wreckage and the remains of two people on board a plane that crashed in southern Alberta continues to be in a holding pattern thanks to weather, according to the Transportation Safety Board.
The two deceased were the only ones on board a single-engine Cirrus SR22 that went down the morning of Sept. 5 near Mount McDougall in Kananaskis Country.
TSB says it’s “coordinating in the recovery efforts”, and an attempt to recover the wreckage Thursday was scrapped before it could start as weather closed in.
“Another attempt is going to be made in the coming days, weather permitting, and the wreckage will be transported to the TSB facility in Edmonton once retrieved,” TSB spokesman Hugo Fontaine told CityNews in an email.
The operation has been marked by challenges with weather and location, with the TSB also saying on Monday that both factors were inhibiting their ability to reach the accident site.
The identities of the two deceased people are not being released as per the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board Act.
The crash site is about 55 kilometres west-southwest of the airport that the plane departed from at Springbank, AB en route to Campbell River BC.
