Conservative Member of Parliament-elect Bob Benzen was all smiles as he entered his campaign office and was greeted by throngs of supporters.
Benzen won in former Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s old riding with an even larger percentage of support than Harper did back in 2015.
There were loud cheers as Benzen entered, his wife on his arm.
He says he knew about the Conservatives’ track record in the riding, but he wasn’t taking that for granted.
A businessman by trade, he says his first job is to get people back to work.
“I wanted to make sure that the legacy of Stephen Harper was intact. I did not want to lose this riding for Mr. Harper,” he told reporters.
He believes the voters are sending Prime Minister Justin Trudeau the message they don’t want a “job-killing carbon tax.”
