New power consumption record set

Albertans push electricity demand to an all time high.
Monday night around 6 p.m. electricity usage in this province hit 10 thousand and 46 megawatts, smashing last year’s record of 9 thousand 8 hundred and 6 megawatts set on Monday , December 15th, 2008.
Direct energy reports energy demand is usually higher at the start of the week with industrial power consumption rising after plants were shutdown for the weekend.
Consumers are being urged to go easy on the electricity between 5 and 7 p.m. by not plugging in their cars, not turning on their Christmas lights or firing up major appliances.
Despite the surge in power consumption the Alberta Electric System Operator says at no time was there a fear that demand would outstrip supply.
10 thousand megawatts is enough power to sustain 10 million homes for one hour.
