Christmas has come early for the Talisman Centre.
The city of Calgary will be paying $44.4 million for a new translucent roof and mechanical system, while the federal government is chipping in a million dollars to be spent on new lighting, an upgraded sound system and enhanced locker rooms.
But all the renovations will come at a cost to its members. For 2010, half of the facility will be closed.
That includes the 50 metre pool, track and dive pool as well. There will also not be any childcare provided during that time.
One 50 metre pool will remain open, as will the weight and cardio training area, and the two gymnasiums.
Members who do not wish to use the centre during renovations will be welcome at other recreational facilities in Calgary at reduced rates.
