A 36-year old woman from Hong Kong is in custody and facing deportation in the latest development of a city police investigation into prostitution and human trafficking.
Sue Ling Long, who is a mother of three, and four months pregnant, came to Canada in February as a visitor. According to the Calgary Herald, she met and fell in love with a man in Calgary in September. She’s also been married twice previously.
Wednesday, city police staged a raid of Wong’s apartment, ironically, a block from police headquarters in the 200 block of 6th avenue southeast. Although she’s not facing charges as a result of the raid, police say there’s a link between this case, and an earlier raid on a northwest hair salon. Police say, the hair salon was a front for a prostitution and human trafficking operation.
But Wong has previous problems, dating back to September. Canada Border Services accuses the woman of running a brothel and trafficking of people, three months ago. The agency also says Wong has numerous deposits into her Canadian bank account, which she claims are casino winnings.
The immigration and refugee board is refusing to let the woman out of custody, saying she is a flight risk.
