Fire tears through S.E. home

Firefighters managed to put out a two-alarm blaze that sparked up inside a small, white house in the city’s southeast early this morning.

The Calgary Fire Department was called to 128 Lysander Place at around 4:30 Sunday morning.

When crews arrived, they reported heavy smoke and flames shooting from the roof and living room area.

All three people who were sleeping inside the home made it out safely, but had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

A nearby neighbour was startled from his sleep by the blaring sirens, and after looking outside he noticed the three displaced residents shivering out in the cold.

Louis Lyskom welcomed them into his home until help arrived, and tells 660News they had just moved into the house about a month or two ago.

The fire is still under investigation, but it appears the blaze broke out inside a fireplace in the upstairs living room.

Damage is estimated at $150,000
