Suspect arrested after car chase

Calgary police have one man in custody after a car chase through Calgary Tuesday morning.

The incident started around 10 a.m., when officers found a vehicle matching the description of a stolen Ford explorer, allegedly used in a break and enter over the weekend.

The vehicle was originally spotted heading northbound on 27 Street by 12 Avenue S.E., and was seen speeding before it turned onto 10 Avenue.

The truck ran several red lights and travelled on the wrong side of the road, and then onto sidewalks in the downtown core.

The truck was last seen driving erratically near 14 Street and 16 Avenue N.W.

Police suspected the driver was 30-year-old Sheldon David Marcellus, already wanted on 17 other warrants.

Marcellus was arrested Tuesday night in a downtown apartment.

According to police, Marcellus put up a struggle during his arrest, and was bit by a police canine.

He was then transported to hospital and received stitches.

CPS Duty Inspector Rob Williams tells 660News the offender had 17 warrants out for his arrest, but may be facing even more charges in connection with the car chase.
