A Lethbridge couple is back on Canadian soil, bringing along with them a harrowing tale of destruction, devastation and human survival.
Ralph and Cindy Molyneux arrived in Haiti just 45 minutes before Tuesday’s earthquake on a trip organized by the charity, Compassion Canada.
The couple were on a bus headed to the charity’s office when the quake hit and the
15 minute ride turned into a four hour ordeal, leading to the Canadian Embassy. They slept in a car overnight in the embassy’s parking lot when the aftershocks continued and after it quieted down, all they only heard was people screaming. Ralph adds just outside the wall was “hell”.
Family and friends gave them a warm welcome along with cheers, tears and hugs as about 80 others also arrived at Calgary International Friday evening.
The Molyneux’s were among the first groups of Canadians flown to Montreal aboard
a military plane.
Ralph, a pastor, says that Haiti is back to “square one” and it’s more important than ever for everyone in the world to step in and help out.
