Another Canadian confirmed dead in Haiti

A second RCMP officer has been confirmed dead following Tuesday’s massive earthquake in Haiti.

RCMP Commissioner Bill Elliott says Supt. Doug Coates’ body was found in the rubble in the Haitian capital Port Au Prince.

Coates was the senior Mountie in Haiti, doing work mentoring police officers.

Another RCMP officer, Sgt. Mark Gallagher, was found dead earlier this week.

Elliott calls both RCMP officers heroes.

The death boosts the confirmed total of Canadian deaths from the Haitian earthquake to seven.

A Quebec college also says one of its professors died in the disaster, but federal officials aren’t confirming that.
