Christmas tree pick-up running late

The City of Calgary hasn’t forgotten to pick up your discarded Christmas tree, crews have just fallen behind.

Lindsay Lofthouse of City Waste Services says if your tree is still sitting by the curb, leave it out there because it will be picked up this week.

She says the inaugural curbside tree pickup program appears to be a success, though final numbers won’t be in for another week or so.

Last year the city recycled 30,000 trees through a series of drop-off depots, but Lofthouse is confident that number will be much higher when the final tally is in this year.

She calls the delays growing pains, which will be ironed out for the program launch next year.
