Rush hour tow trucks clear hurdle

Tow trucks could soon be put on stand-by to clear stalled vehicles and fender benders from some of Calgary’s trouble spots during rush hour.

An aldermanic committee endorsed the plan on Wednesday that would possibly see the tow trucks on Deerfoot Trail, and sections of Crowchild Trail, Macleod Trail, Memorial Drive and Bow Trail.

Alderman Ric McIver tells 660News he’s also made an amendment that was supported by the committee that asks for legislative changes that would see the owners of the towed vehicles foot the bill, instead of taxpayers.

McIver expects council to vote on the issue February 8th.

The Calgary Police Association is in favour of the plan. President John Dooks says the cars and trucks will be able to be removed much quicker if the plan is adopted and that will bring down the number of secondary crashes at the same time.
