Albertans will see new license plates soon

New license plates will be on Alberta roads in the coming months.

The province was supposed to roll out the new plates last fall, but a lag in vehicle sales made the new configuration unnecessary until now.

The Calgary Sun reports the province will run out of “letter-number” combinations for plates by this spring and will switch to a seven character system at that time.  It will be three numbers, followed by four letters.

The new plates will extend the life of new plates in the province by at least 10 to 20 years.
