Fan reaction to trade is mixed

Hockey fans across the country are buzzing after the big trade.

In Calgary, some Flames fans are excited while others don’t like the move.

Many told 660News they were surprised by the trade but for different reasons.   Here are some of their comments:

“I’m surprised that it took this long to do it.  You know, I figured it would’ve been sooner.   Somebody has to go because the cap’s too high and they can’t make room for other players.  The ones that are playing, they’re paying them big money to do nothing.”

“I didn’t think he was going to (be traded)… he’s a good player with the Flames.”

“He wasn’t really having a good year this year, he was sort of off and on.   But I’m still surprised they let him go.   I was hoping they’d hang on to him and maybe let go a guy like Bouwmeester, I don’t think he’s lived up to expectations at all.”

“I think that Sutter not only got a good trade, he got good for what he got, it’s not going to come back and hurt him.”

One Toronto fan 660News caught up with wasn’t happy to hear the Leafs have lost Matt Stajan to Calgary.
“He was my hero for Toronto.   Now they traded him?  I’m a little upset.”

Everyone who spoke to 660News agreed that ‘something’ had to be done by the Flames.
