Calgarian volunteering in Haiti returns Thursday

A volunteer with Samaritan’s Purse who travelled to Haiti to help with relief efforts will be returning to Calgary on Thursday.

The organization has been working to assist Haiti after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake rocked the desperately poor Caribbean nation.

Spokesperson Marty Silbernagel tells 660News over 80 volunteers have been working around the clock following the devastating earthquake

He says volunteers have been working 20-hour days seven days a week, and getting very little sleep.

Volunteers from Samaritan’s Purse have helped 6,000 people receive food, and their doctors have performed about 200 surgeries.

More volunteers will be flying to Haiti on Friday.
